Special Weeks of grade 7: Junior-Scientists in the tropical rain forest
The Special weeks of grade 7 in the Khao Yai Nationalpark had a practical and geographical focus. Everyday a work thesis was formulated, investigated by using field methods, documented and evaluated. Areas of investigations were the tropical rain forest of the Khao Yai National Park and bordering areas, as well as a monocultural industry fallow. One noon, a profile of the Ta Khong river was created and the flow rate of the dry period was calculated. Several animal observations, e.g. a wild elephant, a hornbill couple, different lizard, deer and monkey species continuously fascinated the group. The evening pool hour at Quartier St. Stephans International School and a party on the final evening ended the program.
Special Week of grade 10: Biology
Like in every year before, the grade 10 engages with topics related to biology. The students selected various topics and focused on certain aspects, such as genetics, biochemistry and cellular biology. Besides the study of complex texts and the evaluation of diagrams, different experiments and working with models was emphasized. On the photos one can see with how much motivation, enthusiasm and joy the students worked independently on the assigned tasks, before presenting the results.
Special week of grade 11: Silk-Screen Printing
Within two days the students of the grade 11 learned the art of silk-screen printing. Images the students selected by themselves were printed on T-Shirts and bags by using lightning and stencil technologies. The artist Vichukorn Tangpaiboon (Khun Jon) taught how to acquire skills in different techniques. The students had a lot of fun and would have enjoyed to spend even more time with printing images.
Special Week of grade 11 – History: The Vietnam War – Failure of a Global Power
The three project days focussing on the Vietnam War took place at Swiss Schol in the rooms of grade 11 und were facilitated by history teachers Marc Schumacher and Hendrik Schuhmacher. The students worked on different tasks concerning the topic and prepared presentations about the most important Vietnam movies.
The following topics were dealt with during the three days:
Causes, process and consequences of the Vietnam War
“Bring the War Home!” - The US student movement and the Vietnam War, Radio knowledge – program and tasks
Rain of destruction - Implementing “Agent Orange”
The girl and the photo – documentary and dicussion
US soldiers in Vietnam/The massacre of My Lai
Hollywood deals with the failure of global power - the example “Apocalypse now”
Special Week of grade 12: Maths
„Horror subject“ Maths??? Far from it! Our six maturands extensivly dealt with topics like binomial coefficients in combinatorics“ or „vector analysis in inclined bodies“. And by doing so, they still had fun. Teacher Ines Friedrich prepared the topic and tasks on a high level, so that the six brave mathematicians were able to engage indepently with higher mathematics. Their endurance and ability to concentrate was suprising and amazing, especially considering the difficulty of the issues they had to work on. Despite 7 lessons a day! When evaluating the special week, one of the students mentioned that she would not mind spending another special week on Maths...

Evaluation Visit by the Canton of Lucerne
The canton
of Lucerne is the sponsor canton of Swiss School Bangkok. Each Swiss school
abroad is pedagogically and administratively supervised by at least one canton.
They support the advantageous purchase of school material, student exchange
activities, recruitment and preparatory training for new teaching staff as well
as further training for existing teaching staff. Financial aid may also be
provided in case of investment projects. Furthermore, they pay regular
evaluation visits to their schools.
In
Bangkok, there is an evaluation visit every other year. This year, the
evaluation visit took place between 13.-17.02.12 and was conducted by the Head

upper secondary education and the Bilingual Swiss Maturity. The program consisted
of class visits in subjects that are crucial for the Bilingual Swiss Maturity,
observation of the oral presentations of the Maturity dissertation, analysis of
the written Maturity dissertation as well as last years’ written Maturity
exams, the launch of a survey on workplace satisfaction, participation in the
secondary conference as well as stakeholder interviews.
On behalf of the Canton of
Lucerne, Mr. Schüpbach handed over a very generous present to Swiss School
Bangkok in the form of a voucher of CHF 10.000 destined for the modernization
and equipment of the music and multi-purpose room, which will be of great
benefit for the wider school community.
We would like to express our deep

4. Hoffenheim Supporters Benefiz-Fussballturnier
bezwangen.
letzten Baht an zwei renommierte Kinderhilfsorganisationen, nämlich
Malteser International und Mercy Centre für klar definierte Hilfsprojekte
ausgeschüttet", erläutert Christian Treitel, Präsident der Hoffenheim
Supporters Bangkok.
stattfinden.
Die Manschaft der deutschen Botschaft, Sieger des 4. Hoffenheimer Charity Fussball Turniers 2012.
From 16-18 January Mrs. Johanna Vaenskae, head of primary school and
Mr. Michael Gschnaidner, head of secondary school visited German
European School Manila. In many informative meetings with the
school's function-owners they were given valuable insight into the
International Section which had been successfully introduced there
several years ago. This information will be precious for the
progress of “Profile E” recently launched at Swiss School Bangkok.
We would like thank German European School Manila very much for the
excellent organization of the visit and the constructive
discussions.
