Dear School Community

Nach zwei von Schulausfall getrübten Wochen konnten wir in den vergangenen sechs Tagen dank grosser Unterstützung des thailändischen Bildungsministeriums, der RIS, unserer drei Botschaften, dem Schulkomitee, der Lehrerschaft, den Angestellten, der Eltern- und Schülerschaft sowie allen BeraterInnen und HelferInnen endlich wieder Unterricht nach Stundenplan durchführen. Dafür möchten wir allen Beteiligten an dieser Stelle nochmals ein herzliches Dankeschön ausprechen.

After two weeks troubled by cancelled schooling, thanks to the extraordinary support of the MoE, the RIS, our three Embassies, the school board, the teachers, the staff, parents, students as well as advisers and helpers, we were able to finally continue teaching and learning at the school over the past six days. Once more, we would like to say thank you very much for your outstanding support.

Der Schulbetrieb funktioniert fast normal. Im Durchschnitt besuchten diese Woche 82% aller SchülerInnen und fast 100% der LehrerInnen und Angestellten die Schule. Ausserdem überprüfen wir das Wasser regelmässig. Es ist trinkbar. Als zusätzliche Vorsichtsmassnahme wurde am Freitag noch der gesamte Wassertank vollständig gereinigt, am Montag sind die Filter der Trinkwasserstationen an der Reihe, um eine optimale Wasserqualität sicherzustellen.

School operations are functioning well. On average, 82% of all students and almost 100% of all teachers and staff attended this week. Moreover, the water is checked regularly. It has remained drinkable. As an additional precaution, the water tank was fully cleaned yesterday and on Monday, all filters of our drinking stations will be changed to assure optimal water quality.

Sollte der Unterricht wieder aus irgendeinem Grund verhindert werden, würde sofort auf Online-Unterricht umgestellt und im immer unwahrscheinlicher werdenden Katastrophenfall eine allfällige Schulverlegung erst ab Woche 16 (28.11.-02.12.11) stattfinden.

Should we for whatever reason again be prevented from on-site schooling, we would immediately switch to online learning and prepare for a more and more improbable potential school relocation from week 16 (28.11.-02.12.11) onwards.

Dear School Community

In der Hoffnung, dass Sie diese Zeilen unter sich verbessernden Umständen lesen können, möchten wir Sie, so weit dies angesichts der momentanen Informationslage geht, über den Unterricht in der kommenden Woche informieren.

Hoping that you will be reading these lines under improving circumstances, we would like to inform you about schooling from next week onwards, as far as this is possible with the data at hand at this stage.

Erfreulicherweise ist auch heute wieder die grosse Mehrheit aller SchülerInnen (82%), LehrerInnen und Angestellten an die Schule gekommen. Der Schulbetrieb läuft normal. Die Hochwassersituation ist glücklicherweise weiterhin stabil, die unmittelbaren Zufahrtsstrassen befahrbar.

It is to our great pleasure that, today again, the vast majority of all students (82%), teachers and staff have come to school. School operations are running normally. Luckily, the flood situation has remained stable and the access roads are passable.

Obwohl das gestrige Treffen zwischen der Schulleitung, dem Schulkomitee, VertreterInnen der Botschaften, dem Sicherheitskoordinator, einem Schweizer Wasserexperten und Lehrervertreterinnen praktikable Wege für den Unterricht der kommenden Wochen zu Tage förderte, müssen wir z. Z. auf wichtige Genehmigungen von uns übergeordneten Autoritäten warten, die den regulären Schulbetrieb bzw. die Alternativprogramme abstützen und ohne die wir nicht fortschreiten können.

Although last night’s meeting between the Senior Management Team, the School Board, representatives of our Embassies, the security coordinator, a Swiss water expert and teacher representatives has brought to light some practicable ways of schooling during the upcoming weeks, unfortunately, at this stage, we are forced to wait for crucial decisions taken by superior authorities to uphold regular classes and to back our relocation plans and without which we cannot proceed to further action.

Morgen werden wir in einem weiteren Treffen, hoffentlich mit den ausstehenden Informationen, auf die wir z. Z. warten, die Situation erneut unter die Lupe nehmen müssen.

Tomorrow, there will be another meeting to evaluate the situation including the data we are anxiously waiting for.

Was mitgeteilt werden kann, ist Folgendes:

What can be communicated is the following:

-       Morgen Samstag, 12.11.11, erfolgt der angekündigte Kompensationsunterricht nach Stundenplan vom Dienstag.

Tomorrow Saturday, 12.11.11, we will have the announced compensation classes according to a Tuesday’s schedule.

-       In der morgigen Mittagspause, um 12:00, im Musikzimmer, wird Herr Sierotzki die Schulgemeinschaft mit seinem sehr informativen Vortrag über die aktuelle Hochwassersituation informieren.

During tomorrow’s lunch break, at 12:00, in the Music Room, Mr. Sierotzki will present his very informative presentation about the actual flood situation.

-       Die Schulverlegung nach Pattaya wird nicht nächste Woche beginnen; nur Klasse 7-12 würden dann später im Falle eines Falles verlagert werden; die Primarschule arbeitet an Lösungen vor Ort.

School relocation to Pattaya will not start next week; only grades 7-12 would be relocated if need should occur; primary school is working on solutions in Bangkok.

Trotz den widrigen und zehrenden Umständen kämpfen wir nach wie vor für eine optimale Lösung, damit unsere SchülerInnen mit ihrem Lernen vorwärtskommen.

Despite the adverse and demoralizing situation, we are tirelessly battling for an optimal way for our students to continue with their learning.

Es ist uns eine Freude, Ihnen vermelden zu können, dass auch heute wieder 82% aller SchülerInnen und (fast) alle unsere Lehrkräfte sowie Angestellten trotz z.T. widrigen Umständen den Weg an die Schule unter die Räder genommen haben. Für dieses beispielhafte Verhalten möchten wir allen herzlich danken.

Wir beobachten die Hochwassersituation in und um die Schule genau und möchten wir Ihnen ganz kurz die wichtigsten Informationen, die wir sammeln konnten, mitteilen:

-           Die Situation ist momentan stabil und nicht besorgniserregend

The situation is stable and not worrying at this moment

-           Stellenweise liegt Wasser um die Schule und auf Zufahrtsstrassen, gemessene 5-25 cm

At some points, there is some water around the school and on access roads (5-25 cm)

-           Die Zufahrtsstrassen sind jedoch nach wie vor befahrbar

Access roads are, however, still passable

-           Nahrungsmittel und Getränke sind verfügbar

Food and beverages are available

So wie es z. Z. Ausschaut, ist auch morgen wieder Schule möglich.

As it looks presently, schooling will be possible tomorrow.

Obwohl wir konzentriert an einer potentiellen Schulverlegung und Alternativen ab kommender Woche arbeiten, sollte die Hochwassersituation den Schulbetrieb in Bangkok verunmöglichen, hoffen wir natürlich, dass diese sich nicht weiter ausbreitet und wir auch in den kommenden Wochen in Bangkok bleiben können.

Although we are focusedly working on a possible relocation and alternatives - should the flood situation prevent us from coming to school - of course, we hope that it will ease and make schooling possible in Bangkok in the weeks to come.

Classes resumed yesterday at Swiss School Bangkok.

With 75%, the vast majority of students were present. Today, 83% are physically present.
