In February 2007, the Swiss School Bangkok was certified as test centre for the ICDL in Thailand. Previously the new school leadership decided in August 2006 to supply the students with a valuable and internationally recognized IT certificate. After testing different options the school decided on the ICDL (International Computer Driving License), which is known in Europe under the abbreviation ECDL. This certificate includes the basic version with seven modules.
As an internationally recognized certificate, the ICDL is currently a requirement for many prospective employers because it proves the certificate holder to be a knowledgeable person concerning information technologies. Therefore success in the work force is greater in comparison to other applicants. At Swiss School Bangkok all students start with the ICDL in grade 9. In total they have two years to complete the course starting from the first module test. The students can prepare themselves independently by means of a practice DVD for the tests and are additionally trained during special weeks. There are five certified test persons on the teaching staff (Thomas Ehrmann, Ines Friedrich, Micheal Gschnaidner, Stefan Marti and Matthias Staehli) that conduct the tests via an online system. Since September 2007, the school is opened as a test centre for interested applicants. On request, training and tests can be held at Swiss School Bangkok. Because our test system by the company Enlight from Switzerland enables all tests to be held in German, English, French and Italian. Therefore, non-German speaking applicants are welcome.
